Energy crisis weekend

Well, we went up both days this weekend but didn't do a heck of a lot.  It kept thundering on and off making us reluctant to climb about on the scaffolding, and it was just too hot!  Also, our road was closed for a race on Saturday, which meant we couldn't go up until after noon if we wanted to (well, if we really wanted to we could have gotten there before 8am, but, let's face it; we didn't really want to).

We did, however, kind of miss being able to use our garage/basement at home, because it was all filled with stuff for the camp.  So, Saturday morning we rented a small UHaul and put some stuff inside.  A queen mattress and two twins, our old loveseat, an octagonal screenhouse, an entire set of kitchen cabinets given to us by our next door neighbors when they remodeled, and an eight foot long table with benches.  With Number Two Son's help (One was working and Three was out with his friends), we loaded the truck and brought it all up to the camp.  We unloaded it all into the garage at camp, then went for a swim before melting away entirely.

After the swim, it started to pour, so we just decided to make an early day of it (well, it would have been an early day if it didn't take an hour to return the uhaul).

Today we went up again.  We had ordered the shower base for our camp bathroom - cast iron and 200 pounds.  It originally said it would be delivered Aug 9th... until Thursday morning, when delivery was suddenly changed to that day.  Luckily, there was no signature required, and they left it leaning against our scaffolding.  But, it was way too heavy to move, so Emilio, who is going to be doing our plumbing, came by on Sunday to help us get it upstairs and into the bathroom.

After that we had another swim and kind of succumbed to a general lack of energy.  We did some basic cleaning/organizing, but our hearts weren't in it.  Luckily, things actually got done this week without us: we have a well pump, the underground water line, and the tank in our basement.  And our excavator has done the basic grading for our septic field, so after a year of staring out at a huge clump of boulders and gravel, we may actually have a flat lawn at some point.  The roofers were supposed to come up and finish the soffits and metal trim, but with the digger zooming around up there we've had to reschedule (I want a septic field much more than I want metal fascia wrap installed).

Next week, we are using the camp as a giant wood and metal tent and going up camping.  So we ought to be able to make quite a bit more progress on the work, but also actually get to use it as the vacation spot we've been working toward.

Here's the pictures:

Our well cap no longer sprays water everywhere - and we have a shutoff valve!

The area around the well has gained a nice stone wall.
The well overflow now creates a stream fifteen feet down the hill.

Rocks we got.... Dirt, has to be imported.

from the end of the septic field it's almost flat.
